Common Skin Concerns

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that causes redness, flushing, and visible blood vessels on the face. It primarily affects the central areas of the face, including the nose, cheeks, forehead, and chin.

Symptoms:

  • Persistent redness or flushing
  • Visible blood vessels (telangiectasias)
  • Small, red bumps (papules) or pus-filled bumps (pustules)
  • Burning, stinging, or itching
  • Swelling
  • Thickening of the skin, especially on the nose (rhinophyma)
  • Eye irritation, such as redness, dryness, or blurred vision

Age spots, also known as solar lentigines or liver spots, are flat, brown or black discolorations on the skin that typically appear with age.

Causes:
Age spots are primarily caused by prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. As the skin ages, it becomes more susceptible to sun damage, leading to the accumulation of melanin (the pigment that gives skin its color) in certain areas.

Appearance:

  • Flat, well-defined borders
  • Brown, black, or gray in color
  • Can vary in size from tiny dots to larger patches
  • Commonly appear on sun-exposed areas such as the face, hands, arms, and shoulders

Varicose veins are enlarged, twisted, and bulging veins that are typically visible on the surface of the skin.

Causes:

  • Weak or damaged valves in the veins, which prevent blood from flowing back up the leg
  • Increased pressure in the veins due to factors such as pregnancy, obesity, or prolonged standing or sitting
  • Family history

Symptoms:

  • Visible, bulging veins, often blue or purple in color
  • Aching, heaviness, or cramping in the legs
  • Swelling in the legs
  • Skin ulcers (in severe cases)

"Smoker's lines," or "lipstick lines," are fine, vertical wrinkles that appear above the upper lip, often associated with smoking but can also occur due to aging, genetics, and sun exposure.

FAQ's

  • How many CO2 laser treatments will I need?

The number of CO2 laser treatments needed varies based on individual skin conditions, desired results, and the type of laser used, but generally, one to three treatments spaced a few weeks apart are common for fractional CO2 laser resurfacing.

  • Is there any down time?

CO2 laser treatments typically involve a downtime of 1 to 2 weeks for the skin to heal, with some redness or pinkness potentially lasting for several weeks to months as collagen remodels.

    Initial Recovery (Days 1-3):

Expect redness, swelling, and a sensation of warmth or tightness, which should subside within 24-48 hours.

CO2 laser resurfacing typically requires three days to a week of downtime. Many patients have noticeable redness for up to two weeks which gradually subsides to reveal a more even complexion. Some pinkness can remain for several weeks to months as collagen remodels.
